Home Upgrades – Paint

I’ve been referencing updating our home for awhile now, so I figured I’d share some more specifics. I wanted a clean, classic look that would stand the test of time and wouldn’t be too trendy. I don’t want to go through this crap again!!

Up first, changing out the paint. When we moved in there were 5 colors not counting the trim or white walls just on the first floor. We had a soft yellow, brown, what my husband called baby poop brown, baby puke brown, and red. No joke. We got rid of the red immediately and matched it to the brown that was in the dining room. Our furniture and other decor matched with what the rest of the colors so we didn’t make any other changes.

Fast forward 8 years and I was yellowed out. I wanted a nice neutral that would work well with pretty much any other color. I settled on Agreeable Gray from Sherwin Williams. I liked that it wasn’t too brown or too blue. It’s not overpowering. We went with Pure White for the trim.

We had the whole house done save for the master bed and bath. My husband had already done those. 😉 The house looks and feels so much better now that we have one color. The space feels more open and airy. We don’t feel like the rooms are as broken up as before.

It was money well spent to feel like we had a fresh start in the house. We used a contractor recommended by our neighbors. They did a good job and were very reasonably priced. Do your research before you hire someone. If you’re tackling it yourself, invest in good tools & be patient with yourself!!

Do you prefer paint over wallpaper? Do you paint each room a different color or stick with the same one throughout? Can’t wait to hear from you! Love, TC
